Emmanuel Wingate

Wingate is a valuable member of our Dispute Resolution team and has considerable experience interfacing with regulatory agencies including the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Lands Bureau and the Department of Petroleum Resources. His roles include comprehensive due diligence to ensure transactional compliance with relevant Nigerian laws and regulations including research and strategy.

 

Key Transactions

  • Member of the team that successfully represented a former bank director prosecuted dor alleged capital market offences in the wake of the bank collapse crisis. The Court of Appeal victory has now become the classic authority disproving the jurisdiction of the State High Courts in matters relating to capital markets
  • Member of the team that advised a leading petroleum exploration company on compliance with the Nigerian Local Content Act
  • Member of the team acting for several banks to recover various debts running into millions of Naira
  • Member of the team that advised a petroleum company on compliance with the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Act
  • Member of the team that represented a petroleum exploration company both at the High Court and at the Court of Appeal with regard to vacating a Mareva Injunction obtained against it by its business partners, in a matter related to its entry into Nigeria
  • Member of the team that advised a leading LNG company as to its options concerning the divestment of parent company shares in one of its shareholders
